Mike Tomlin Super Bowl Appearances - Free Printable PDF 2025

Ah, Mike Tomlin. The man, the myth, the eternal purveyor of the "standard is the standard" press conference. Since taking over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007, Tomlin has accomplished something remarkable: he has never had a losing season. Not one. And yet, when it comes to Super Bowl appearances, his resume reads like a novella rather than an epic novel. That's right, folks — Tomlin has guided the black and gold to exactly two Super Bowls. Two! Let's dive into this gloriously frustrating tale of near-glories, broken mirrors, and one very famous touchdown run by a man named Santonio.

The Road to Super Bowl XLIII: When Tomlin Made History Look Easy

Only his second season at the helm, and young Mike Tomlin strolled into Super Bowl XLIII like he owned the place. Fair enough — in a way, he did. The 2008 Steelers bulldozed their way to Tampa Bay, where they faced the Arizona Cardinals in what remains one of the greatest Super Bowls ever played. Ben Roethlisberger, fresh off a season of ignoring offensive coordinators with the confidence of a man who knew better, delivered when it mattered most. And then came Santonio Holmes' toe-tapping, gravity-defying, do-you-believe-in-miracles catch in the corner of the end zone. Tomlin, at just 36 years old, became the youngest head coach ever to win a Super Bowl. Somewhere, Chuck Noll nodded approvingly. Somewhere else, Bill Cowher's chin jiggled with pride. One for the thumb, indeed. Pittsburgh partied so hard that the city reportedly considered renaming a street "Santonio Boulevard" — a rumour we choose to believe entirely.

Super Bowl XLV: The One That Got Away (Thanks, Packers)

Three years later, Tomlin was back on the big stage, this time in Arlington, Texas, facing the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV. And here's where the story takes a tragic turn worthy of a Shakespearean adaptation, preferably performed by men in terrible terrible towels. Big Ben threw a late interception that sealed Pittsburgh's fate, and the Packers walked away 31-25 victors. Tomlin's record in Super Bowls? A perfectly respectable, perfectly agonising one win and one loss. Since then? Not a sniff. The Steelers keep making the playoffs with metronomic regularity — Tomlin's streak of non-losing seasons is now longer than most people's Netflix queues — but January has become a cruel month in the 'Burgh. Fans grumble, pundits speculate, and Tomlin simply delivers another deadpan presser about "ignoring the noise." The man has turned stoicism into an art form. Whether he ever adds a second Lombardi trophy to the cabinet is anyone's guess, but one thing is certain: the standard, apparently, is still the standard. And until that standard includes another Super Bowl ring, Steelers Nation will keep shouting about it from every corner of the internet, forever and always.
