The most talked-about battle during fall camp centred on the quarterback position, where Julian Sayin emerged as the favourite to lead the offence. The former five-star recruit impressed coaches with his poise, accuracy, and command of the playbook. Behind him, veteran talent provides depth and experience. The wide receiver room, long considered Wide Receiver U, remains stacked, with emerging stars ready to fill the shoes of departed first-round talents. Jeremiah Smith, coming off a sensational freshman campaign, is widely regarded as the premier pass-catcher in the nation and the focal point of the 2025 attack.

Defensive Depth and Star Power Across the Front Seven

On the defensive side of the ball, Ohio State must replace several key contributors who departed for the NFL Draft, yet the cupboard is far from bare. The defensive line features a rotation of athletic edge rushers and interior linemen capable of dictating games at the line of scrimmage. Linebacker play will be anchored by experienced returners, while the secondary welcomes back a mix of seasoned cornerbacks and safeties who gained valuable snaps during the championship run. Coordinator Matt Patricia's arrival brings a fresh tactical approach, emphasising versatility and aggressive pressure packages.

Special Teams, Recruiting Class, and Season Outlook

The 2025 recruiting class ranks among the best in the country, headlined by blue-chip prospects on both sides of the ball who could earn immediate playing time. Transfer portal additions have addressed needs along the offensive line, adding much-needed experience to protect the young quarterback. Special teams remain reliable, with a dependable kicking game and dynamic return specialists. With a schedule that features marquee clashes against Texas, Oregon, and arch-rival Michigan, the Buckeyes face a challenging path back to the College Football Playoff. Nevertheless, with this depth of talent and a proven coaching staff, expectations in Columbus remain sky-high, and the 2025 Ohio State roster has all the ingredients for another deep postseason run.
