padres game today score

I will admit it straight away: I am hopeless on game days. The moment I realised the Padres were playing today, I became that person who checks their phone every five minutes, refreshing the score page like it might somehow update faster if I stare at it hard enough. There is something wonderfully torturous about following a baseball game remotely. You get a burst of joy when the run counter ticks over, then thirty minutes of quiet anxiety whilst nothing appears to happen, followed by the sudden panic of seeing the bases loaded and having absolutely no idea how we got here.

Today was no different. I had every intention of being productive. There were emails to answer, laundry to fold, and a whole afternoon of carefully planned tasks ahead of me. Instead, I spent most of it with one eye on the live score feed and the other on my phone, jumping every time it buzzed with a notification. My partner has long since stopped asking why I keep sighing at inanimate objects. The Padres have a way of turning an ordinary Wednesday into an emotional rollercoaster, and honestly, I would not have it any other way.

A Curious Detour Into the World Salmon Market

Here is where things get a bit strange. Somewhere between innings, whilst waiting for the bottom of the seventh to resolve itself, I fell down an internet rabbit hole and ended up reading a salmon industry report of all things. Blame it on the nervous energy. The graphic below popped up in my wandering, and I found it oddly calming compared to the tension of a one-run game.

Cover of the world salmon market survey report showing market size, share, trends, manufacturer insights and forecasts to 2037

Apparently the global salmon market is projected to grow substantially through 2037, with shifting consumer trends and manufacturer competition reshaping the whole industry. Who knew? Certainly not me, an hour earlier, obsessing over a bullpen decision. It is funny what a score-checking spiral leads you to. One moment you are looking at pitch counts, the next you are reading about aquaculture supply chains in the North Atlantic.

Why I Keep Coming Back to Score-Watching

By the time the final out was recorded, I had learned two things: the state of my nerves after nine innings of baseball, and more about salmon farming than I ever expected. There is a lesson in there somewhere, probably about living in the moment rather than refreshing a screen. But let us be honest, tomorrow I will do exactly the same thing again, phone in hand, heart in throat, cheering on the Padres from my sofa. That is the beauty of being a fan. The score matters, the stress matters, and even the strange detours along the way somehow become part of the memory of the day.

If you spent today following the game too, I would love to hear how you coped with the tension. Did you watch every pitch, or were you, like me, a serial score-refresher? Either way, there is always another game tomorrow, and I for one cannot wait.
