Playstation 3 Used Price

The PlayStation 3 might be well over a decade old, but it remains one of the most fascinating consoles on the second-hand market. Whether you are chasing backwards compatibility, a vast library of exclusives, or simply a dose of nostalgia, understanding the used price landscape in Australia is essential before you hand over your cash. Prices fluctuate depending on model, condition, storage capacity, and whether the original box and cables are included, so it pays to do a bit of homework before committing to a purchase.

How Much Should You Expect to Pay for a Used PlayStation 3?

In the Australian second-hand market, a standard slim model PlayStation 3 typically sells for anywhere between $80 and $180, depending on condition and included accessories. The original fat models, particularly the coveted backwards-compatible units, can command significantly more, sometimes reaching $250 or above if they are in excellent nick. Refurbished units from reputable sellers often sit at the higher end of that range, while private sales through marketplaces and community groups tend to be cheaper, though they carry more risk. Always check whether the console has been tested, ask about the health of the Blu-ray drive, and confirm that the hard drive has not been tampered with before you agree on a price.

Collector's Items and Rare Editions Driving Up Resale Value

Beyond the standard models, certain editions have become genuine collector's pieces. Limited-release bundles, special colour variants, and consoles bundled with iconic titles can fetch a premium well above the typical used price. Japanese import models also attract attention from dedicated collectors, and buyers are often willing to pay extra for complete-in-box examples with original documentation. If you are a seller, presenting your console cleanly, photographing all ports and cables, and including any original packaging can noticeably lift your final sale price. For buyers, patience is your greatest asset; prices vary wildly between listings, and a tidy, well-maintained unit often surfaces at a bargain price for those willing to wait.

Ultimately, the PlayStation 3 offers brilliant value on the used market, especially for gamers keen to revisit classics like The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 4, and the Uncharted trilogy. Set a budget, inspect before buying where possible, and you will secure a piece of gaming history without breaking the bank.
