It is Reading Month, and 2025 feels like one of those years where the theme could not be more relevant to what is happening around us. I have spent the past few weeks dipping in and out of different books, chatting with teachers and librarians, and thinking about what this annual celebration really means. For me, Reading Month has never been about ticking off a list of titles. There is a lovely analogy about globalisation that I came across recently, and it has genuinely changed how I think about reading. Just as globalisation weaves economies, cultures and communities together, books weave minds together across borders and generations. When I pick up a novel translated from Japanese, or a memoir written by someone who grew up thousands of miles from my little corner of Britain, I am participating in my own kind of exchange. No passport required, no jet lag, just pages. I reckon that is exactly the spirit behind the 2025 theme: reading as a bridge,
