For fans seeking to understand this complex antagonist, one of the most common questions is simple: what is Toji's full name? The answer reveals a significant backstory involving clan politics, rejection, and personal reinvention.

Toji's full legal name is Toji Fushiguro. However, this was not the name he was born with. He was originally named Toji Zenin, a member of the prestigious Zenin clan, one of the three great jujutsu families in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Because he was born with a Heavenly Restriction that granted him immense physical abilities but left him completely devoid of cursed energy, the Zenin clan treated him with contempt and viewed him as a disappointment. After leaving the clan, he married a woman whose family name was Fushiguro and adopted her surname as his own. This decision symbolized his deliberate severance from the Zenin family and his desire to build a new identity outside the oppressive world of jujutsu society.

Before his marriage, Toji was known as Toji Zenin, and this birth name carries considerable weight in the series' lore. The Zenin clan prized inherited cursed techniques above all else, and Toji's inability to see or use curses made him an outcast among his own relatives. Rather than allowing his lineage to define him, he rejected the Zenin name entirely. His choice to take on his wife's family name represents one of the most meaningful acts of self-determination in the series. This duality of identity remains relevant throughout the story, particularly when his son, Megumi Fushiguro, becomes entangled with the Zenin clan. Understanding both names, Toji Zenin and Toji Fushiguro, provides essential context for his motivations, his strained history, and the lasting impact he left on the Jujutsu Kaisen narrative.
